Beelingua was created by Valerie Thornber, a teacher who saw the huge potential in using software as a teaching and learning aid in the language classroom. Her Masters thesis drew on evaluation criteria for the successful integration of CALL (Computer Assisted Language Learning) into the classroom. Using examples through her three products: Little Tails of the Unexpected (P6&7, KS2) Language Martians (S1&S2, KS3) she has shown how these criteria can be applied to software to create stimulating resources. Val believes that a thorough methodology is vital for the success of a language learning software programme. The methodology behind her software is called 'Progression through High Frequency Words'. She has written a Paper on this concept which has been published by Scottish CILT (Scottish Centre for Information on Language Teaching and Research). To download this document click here. |
